Safety first

Every walk starts with judgment.

Mountain conditions change quickly. We evaluate trail choice, leash needs, temperature, ice, wildlife, dog fitness and recall expectations before choosing an outing.

We encourage secure harnesses for nervous dogs, visitors and Houdini-adjacent pups. GPS collars can be helpful for added peace of mind, especially on bigger adventures.

What that means in practice

  • Most outings are individual.
  • Buddy hikes are only considered when dogs are compatible and conditions are safe.
  • Off-leash time is request-only, experience-based and GPS-required.
  • If the weather or trail turns sketchy, we adjust. No ego hikes.

About us

Local mountain care for dogs who need more than a rushed sidewalk lap.

Mountain DAWGS was created for Summit County pets who need real movement, thoughtful handling and care that fits mountain life. Some days call for a proper trail romp. Other days call for a mellow sniffari, a careful potty break or keeping everyone cozy at home.

For drop-ins and overnight stays, we also care for cats, because mountain cats deserve food, litter care, fresh water, medication support when appropriate, and a calm human who respects the tiny household monarch.

FAQ

Common questions before the leash comes out.

Quick answers for locals, visitors and pets who believe every human sentence means “walk.”

Do you offer overnight pet sitting?

Yes. Our overnight in-home pet sitting keeps pets in their familiar home environment. We stay overnight, follow your pet’s routine, provide multiple potty breaks, handle morning and evening feeding, give medications as directed, include a Classic Loop midday walk for dogs, and clean up after pets and ourselves.

Do you offer regular drop-in visits?

Yes. Drop-In Visits start at $30 and can include potty breaks, feeding, fresh water, litter care, medication as directed, a home check, and a quick dose of attention.

What is the difference between overnight pet sitting and overnight drop-ins?

With overnight in-home pet sitting, we stay in your home. With overnight drop-ins, we visit several times per day for pets that are independent and comfortable being alone overnight. The 3x daily option is best for dogs that can go 12 hours overnight. The 4x daily option adds a late-evening visit so dogs are never alone for more than 9 hours.

Do you care for cats?

Yes. Dogs and cats are welcome for overnight in-home pet sitting and drop-in care. Cat care can include feeding, fresh water, litter care, medication support when directed, and calm check-ins.

Do you do group walks or buddy hikes?

Most outings are individual. Small buddy hikes may be available only when dogs are compatible, the route makes sense and conditions are safe.

Do you walk dogs off-leash?

Off-leash time is only available on request, after we have experience with the dog, have deemed them a good candidate and they are wearing a GPS collar. If conditions change, we leash up, no debate.

Do you care for dogs with special needs?

Yes. We love all pets and have accommodated old dogs, deaf dogs, tripawds, and reactive dogs.

Do you accept puppies and senior dogs?

Yes. We tailor outings to age and ability. Puppies often do best with shorter, structured adventures, while seniors benefit from gentler routes, slower pacing and extra breaks.

Will I get updates after the walk?

Yes. Through our app, you receive a report card after each outing with photos, notes on energy level, behavior, bathroom breaks and a route map.

How do I book, and how far in advance?

Book online or call us directly. We recommend 48 to 72 hours notice, and earlier for weekends, holidays and peak vacation periods.

What is your cancellation and reschedule policy?

Please cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours in advance. Late cancellations are charged as a full visit since outings are one-on-one and capacity is limited. If weather makes conditions unsafe, we will contact you to cancel, reschedule or make other arrangements.

What vaccines or preventatives do you require?

Rabies vaccination is required before service. In Summit County, we also recommend DAP and Lepto because of stream-and-pond adventures, plus heartworm and flea/tick prevention.

How do you handle keys, entry and home security?

We store entry details securely in our scheduling system, and access is limited to Mountain DAWGS owners and your Adventure Guide on the day of service.
